Short‐Term Variability Effect on Peak Demand: Assessment Based on a Microcomponent Stochastic Demand Model

Abstract Peak demand plays a major role in water distribution system design. assessment is currently facing double challenge: shifting toward probabilistic approach, and considering the effect of different spatial temporal resolutions. Most approaches so far have focused on inferring scaling laws by analyzing measurement time series for The aim this paper two‐fold: (a) to present novel analytical approach that enables assess short‐term variability peak demands scales, (b) ease understanding factors thanks physically based (rather than an empirical) approach. This possible combining principles analysis with microcomponent‐based (i.e., end‐use oriented) model variability. methodology here proposed applied two case studies purpose validating showing its full potential. Results prove stochastic models can be powerful tool assessment.
